GCSE Business - Pricing strategies
The central aim of this lesson is to help students to get to grips with the underlying factors affecting a firm’s choice of pricing strategy. It uses a very carefully structured case study approach and the use of Learning Outcome Circles. This is supported by a range of other approaches to teaching the topic – including an interactive PowerPoint presentation, an internet based research and presentation activity, a more traditional worksheet and a set of flashcards which are useful as a plenary or starter.
Although cider may be inappropriate in some circumstances, the strategy could be used for fizzy water or other non-alcoholic drink.
The lesson can divided up to fit two 1 hour lessons – or in other ways to fit the school or college timetable.
The resources which can be downloaded from the column on the right comprise:
- Resource 1- The Somerset Cider Company case study (one per student)
- Resource 2 - OHT - factors affecting choice of pricing strategy (bubble map)
- Resource 3 - Handout – factors affecting choice of pricing strategy (bubble map) – multiplecopies
- Resource 4 - Handout – some pricing strategies
The two PowerPoint presentations provide flashcards and theory support for teacher-led discussions.
