A level Economics - Supply and demand
The use of diagrams, the abstract nature of the concepts and an (often) lack of understanding of the importance of modelling in economics makes this a challenging area to teach and a difficult one for students to learn. The idea of modelling human behaviour, central to the methodology of economics, is not something that comes easily to students new to A’ level – bearing in mind that eight weeks before the first class of sixth form, these students were doing GCSE.
Two sets of resources are offered for you here.
- A lesson to introduce the idea of demand and supply curves, the determinants of demand and supply, shifts and movements along curves and equilibrium price.
- A PowerPoint presentation focussing on aggregate demand and supply. This was developed in Microsoft 2007. A version compatible with Microsoft 1997-2003 is also provided but in that version some of the animation features for introducing text will not be available. As this is a large presentation (152 slides) it is also offered in pdf for ease of printing and review.
