A level Business Studies - Mathematical concepts made easier

These resources are designed to aid teaching some of the more challenging, numerical aspects of the AS course. Many weaker candidates experience real difficulties with anything vaguely mathematical and this impacts on their overall confidence in the subject, which is a great pity.  The intention is to teach strategies for examination success by explaining the common sense behind it, where possible using words rather than mathematical signage and as a last resort providing a handout that may be learned and used correctly. Even if students do not have a complete understanding to begin with, their understanding evolves over time and is enhanced by the confidence gained from beginning to answer correctly.

The resources which can be downloaded from the download column on the right comprise:

  • Lesson 1 - Capacity utilisation. Supported with Resource 1 - a set of questions and answers
  • Lesson 2 - Measuring effectiveness of the workforce. Supported with Resource 2 - a PowerPoint presentation
  • Lesson 3 - An introduction to cash flow. Supported by Resource 3 - a PowerPoint presentation
  • Lesson 4 - Causes of cash flow problems and methods of improving cash flow. Supported with Resources 4, 5 and 6 - some practicial worksheet activities and resource 7, a PowerPoint presentation
