Generic issues for new teachers - the new secondary curriculum

Much of the content of the material on this page is aimed PGCE tutors where it is assumed the new secondary curriculum, introduced in September 2008, will be taught at the beginning of the programme. The purpose of these activities is to raise awareness of the range of roles that a business education teacher could have in addition to being a teacher of optional examination subjects at key stages 4 and 5. This unit also aims to raise awareness of the National Curriculum programmes of study for PSHE and Citizenship and the Professional Standards for Teachers. This could then usefully be linked to the provider’s own documentation for evidence of trainees' meeting the standards and the auditing of their subject knowledge. This unit of work is divided into eight sections with the emphasis being on the active involvement of trainees to enable them to understand the terminology, ideas and documentation which will be new to them at the start of their training year.

New teachers who are being asked to address cross-curricular aspects in the teaching of their specific subject shoud find of use the the information contained in the PowerPoint presentation .
