Generic issues for new teachers - Creating the right classroom environment for teaching and learning in business education
This unit considers the way a classroom looks and the first impression that it makes on students and colleagues. It highlights the importance of creating a good learning environment.
The fundamental principles of classroom ethos and climate, classroom layout and classroom displays are explored, as well as the impact of colour and space. Guidance is given on best practice.
The two practical tasks could be completed by trainee teachers as part of PGCE training. These tasks require minimal materials and use resources that are readily available in schools. The group activity is based around ethical issues in business education, providing trainees with a teaching resource that can be moved from class to class.
This unit is offers opportunities for independent learning and so is appropriate for new teachers who wish to improve their skills in creating a good classroom environment or trainee teachers on a placement.
