Generic issues for experienced teachers - Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) are a framework for describing the qualities and skills needed for success in learning and life. The PLTS framework was developed and refined by the QCA. Itcomprises six groups of skills:

  • independent enquirers
  • creative thinkers
  • reflective learners
  • team workers
  • self-managers
  • effective participants

The article, which was written by Sandra Donnelly and which can be downloaded from the column on the right, was first published in the Summer 2011 edition of the EBEA Magazine.  It provides an outline of PLTS, shows how quickly and easily PLTS can be embedded into existing schemes of work and how many opportunities there are in our subjects to develop PLTS. It also gives an example of how the PLTS framework has been used in a GCSE Business Studies lesson and some of the  work that was produced. The sample material described in the article is also available to download.
