Generic issues for experienced teachers - Using assessment for learning

Assessment for learning (AfL) is a process of identifying how students need to progress in order to develop their attainment levels. This means that areas of strength need to be identified and built upon and also that areas of development should be determined and developed. As a tool its purpose is to provide instruction within the classroom that supports and engages learning. (Shepard, 2000)
