This unit is designed to help trainees develop and write effective mark schemes for use as a teaching and learning tool for classes and learners. Mark schemes are the key element in how marks are awarded for both examined and portfolio work.

This unit explains the different types of assessment and how to the write a mark scheme. It is supported by examples and three tasks which could form the focus of a discussion between tutor and trainees or could be used by trainees or NQTs for indendepent learning.
