Supporting trainees - Needs analysis
Trainees begin a programme with very different prior experience and capabilities. Two of the areas where this is most apparent is their subject knowledge and in their ICT skill. The extent of subject knowledge is usually influenced by the focus of the trainees' degrees and the relevance of their recent employment experience. A needs analysis enables the provider to link varied opportunities to build upon trainees' current capabilities. This provides valuable flexibility in a programme. In order to analyse needs it is also clearly crucial to carry out an audit of subject knowledge.
