Bank of England Conference

This one day conference considered recent policy responses by the Bank of England and the impact they are having on business. Speakers included representatives from the Bank of England, Business and Education. The sessions provided perspectives on the nature of the problems, the policy responses available, their impact on UK entrepreneurs and the implications for the teaching of Economics and Business Studies. A top flight range of speakers was featured.

Fraser Doherty is a young entrepreneur who created and runs Superjam which sells a range of 100% pure fruit jams. The company now supplies major UK supermarkets, has won a variety of awards and is even included in a museum exhibit as an example of an iconic Scottish food brand.

The Bank of England undertakes surveys of business which inform its monetary strategy. Rosie Smith works in this field and she spoke about the process of information gathering and analysis.
 

Philip Radley-Smith is an entrepreneur who created and runs i2i Media which offers leading edge IT solutions focusing on streaming and presentations. The company is also award winning and is working across the US and Europe. 

 

Professor David Miles is a member of the MPC and has been Professor of Finance at Imperial College, University of London since 1996. He became a Visiting Professor in October 2004 when he took up a post as Managing Director in Economic Research at Morgan Stanley, in London. His research focuses on the interaction between financial markets and the wider economy. He will be speaking as a member of the MPC.

Marwan Mikdadi and Ian Marcousé are both highly successful teachers, examiners and authors in their fields. They will share their experience of teaching these issues to their students and offer advice on resources and teaching approaches. Marwan Mikdadi's presentation was on the subject of British Manufacturing
