In September 2008 the first five lines of the piloted and long awaited Specialised Diploma Lines became more widely available. The qualification for 14-19 year olds offers learners an opportunity to experience a range of learning styles in their usual setting but also in other specialist learning centres, and crucially in the workplace. The idea is that this approach will help young people to make more informed choices about what kind of work they might want to do.
Business Education inevitably permeates all seventeen of the new Diploma Lines as all must have rich veins of applied learning running from their core. Each line has been devised in conjunction with the associated Sector Skills Council and each will rely heavily on the industries and indeed businesses within their sector to provide the quality and quantity of genuine applied learning opportunities required. Inevitably this will bring elements of Business and Enterprise Education to learners across the spectrum of Diploma Lines in an unprecedented manner. As such, and as classroom teachers of Business Education, we all face fantastic opportunities to support learning across the lines.
